I f the information about them is indicated on the title page o f the book, the descriptions o f surnames are indicated in brackets after the title. The place o f issuing and publishing house are usually pointed besides cases when they are not indicated on the title page. I f the departments published statistical works, they are pointed instead o f titles o f publishing houses'. The works which were reissued several times are described by the last issuing. W o r k i n g on the book, the authors, beside o f study o f represented sources in nature (the most valid method o f deriving o f bibliographic information), applied to the available bibliographic indexes and researches o f ancient times, including the bibliographic indexes o f encyclopedic publications. A lot o f valuable information was also obtained in study o f experience o f sourcelearners work on drawing up the bibliographies on foreign statistics, and also bibli­ ographies on adjacent disciplines—political economy demography, book-keeping, computer processing o f economic information, mathematics etc. Besides the experi­ ence o f drawing up the bibliographic indexes o f statistical publications o f pre-revolution Russia and experience o f drawing up the foreign and international bibliograph­ ic indexes on statistics was taken into consideration. A t last, the available researches on the history o f statistics were used (at work on the first part o f the book). I n preparation o f the bibliographic index the authors used funds and catalogues of the Institute o f Scientific Information and Fundamental library on public scienc­ es o f Russian Academy o f Science, Russian State library (former I . Lenin Library), A . M . G o r k i scientific library, libraries o f Goskomstat o f the Russian Federation, Interstate Statistical committee o f CIS and АН-Union Book Chamber, A . I . Chuprov statistical cabinet in Saint-Petersburg, economic institutes, and also former M A C archive. The appropriate materials located in the Internet are widely used also.
