A n d this is the fourth and final reason of preparation and publication of this encyclopedic index of the Russian statistical publications. What should be especially allocated i n this encyclopedic edition? First o f all we should allocate the encyclopedic character which shows a possibility o f documentary, and that is why demonstrative approach to the evaluation o f the history of our socio-economic development, our contradictory life, which covers the period o f many centuries. The index purses the creation o f fundamental base o f knowledge upon which it is possible to create completed not varying estimated numbers o f the past, valuations free from useless criticism, estimates based on 29,5 thousand publications, represented in it and carried out on the basis o f figures and facts. The basis o f this encyclopedic index, its independent and self-sufficient value is statistical materials (represented i n i t ) , which characterize the economic growth o f Russia during 200 years, including the estimates o f parameters o f that growth, which show the possibility o f cross analysis and counter check and furthermore adjustments and repeated grouping o f the published separated and i n many respects contradictory data, its systematization into numbers o f annual absolute and relative increases and (by analogy) average annual increases on different 5year, 10-year and other intervals and presenting the information as some set o f long-term historical numbers o f socio-economic development o f Russia. Without an overstatement it is possible to say that in such volume, with such time scope and target directives the bibliographic indexes haven't been developed and represented in our economic literature. A n d such problem hasn't been raised and studied before anywhere and by anybody. On this basis all structure o f the represented encyclopedia, its architecture, panoramic analysis o f rates, proportions and factors o f development o f statistical publications are built, the stakes o f this growth, main propulsions are designated, the cross and full performances o f main o f its components are given as far as possible. Representing i n a generalized kind important economic events o f X - X X centuries, integrating them by indications o f causal connections, grouping by epochs and periods o f various state and political governs, the authors o f the encyclopedia by bibliographic methods tried to show to the reader a truthful picture not only o f statistical, but also o f general socio-economic development o f Russia the panorama o f sights, turns and breaks o f the country, findings and losses which sometimes more and deeper explain the essence o f all what happened to Russia than whole heaps o f historical publications and general reasoning about curve paths and destinies o f our mother and for all period o f its difficult historical life. The authors tried to present all this so complete by subject and documentary, as far as the historical statistical materials, saved in country, and archival funds on history o f economic, history o f the national economy and history o f science and engineering, joint i n the encyclopedia together only allowed. A n y large work containing even two—three figures, which could be interesting for statistics, except for empty and casual works which are not containing anything except their own title was not overlooked. 32
