The book consists of the two parts adding one another. The anatomy of the statistical publications of the USSR—its bibliographic pointer—is represented in the second part, and its genetics and evolution during the development of the Soviet statistics—in the first part. The book represents more than 5000 publications on general problems of economic, industrial, agricultural statistics, statistics of construction, transport and other branches. The contents, classifications, good reflection of the main idea, detailed and clear descriptions make the book one of the most important sources of works of the modern statistics, valuable manual for a lot of experts. There is a necessity, however, to approximate the classification of the statistical publications to conditions and requests of functioning of the electronic system of state statistics (ESSS), develop it with allowance for all-union qualifiers, developed in the country (production, enterprises and organizations, branches of the national economy etc.). Simultaneously with introduction of these qualifiers into practice the identical classification o f data should be introduced. The classification, which makes it possible to get maximum information necessary for the analysis and management with minimum basic data, i.e. the base of the statistic data bank, has to be created. The development of the full and unified bibliographic pointer of statistical publications is a very step taken for the solution of these problems. Another problem is classification of the common (for different topics) sources, which contain equivalent important information of two and more headings of the bibliography. In this work the problem has been solved by duplication of the most important publications and data (for example, publication of data of the input—output tables balances). It is important, that the contribution of V. I . Lenin (to the development of statistical publications, role of the publications in his studies) has been fully shown in this work. This material could become a basis of independent work—bibliography of those statistical publications, with which V . I . Lenin worked and on which he referred in his works. The large interest, on our point of view, could present the special pointer of the statistical publications used and mentioned in resolutions and solutions of congresses of KPSS and councils of C K KPSS in the instructions and decrees of the consignment and government on economic problems. It is suggested that the given book will be a valuable issue for the specialists of the state statistics in the field of statistical analysis, including retrospective analysis, in order to make everything collected in the past be useful for the modern statistics.
